People
with Low Income
Aim
: To
improve the quality of life of low-resource populations in urban and suburban
areas, through a
focus on self-alimentation with
Hydroponic fruits and vegetables, (natural, harmless products with a very
high content of nutrients), also generating
work and income for the family.
It is necessary to put these projects into practise through State
Organisms such as Ministries, Local Governments, etc., or NGOs and
organized groups.
AQUA
FOOD provides the following services in this area:
Study
of the
beneficiary population.
Project Disign.
Implementation
(training and follow-up).
Evaluation.
Advantages of Hydroponics for Low-Income Populations:
Urban Agriculture: It is ideal to grow
vegetables in urban and
suburban areas (backyards, rooftops, balconies, walls,
gardens), without soil.
It
allows to produce all kinds of natural vegetables:
* Vegetables: lettuce, tomatoes,
carrots, celery,
watercress, beans,
parsley, radish, cucumbers, etc.
* Fruits:
strawberries, melon, watermelon, etc.
* Others: flowers, aromatic
and medicinal plants.
Since the cultivation is
not done on soil, there is no
microbiological contamination, the nutritional quality, the
high
biological value and the harmlessness of the products
(inocuity) can be ensured.
It
allows the reuse of waste or reusable materials to build the
containers (wood, plastic, etc.).
There is a low-cost
Simplified Hydroponics package, which
suits the conditions of the low-resource populations.
It is
easy to learn, it does not require any previous
knowledge.
Hydroponics has a motivating effect, which allows to obtain
concrete results within a short period of time, that is to
say,
the consumption of their own vegetables.
Income
Generation : surplus for commercialisation can be
produced in orchards larger than 40 m2.
