URBAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Moving from an International to a Local Agenda

SUBJECTS FOR ANALYSIS

· How to generate mechanisms to adapt the global environmental agenda at the local scale, in interaction with the national level.

· What regional steps to implement in order to develop strategies common to international agencies and governments, so as to coordinate actions that respond to local demands.

· How to help visualize and implement responsibilities shared at the different administrative levels to address the local environmental agenda.

· The role of the main social actors in the implementation of the local agenda.

· What institutional mechanisms allow for the incorporation of research into the plans to develop sustainable local environmental policies and how can research respond to the local and global demands relative to environmental issues.

· How important is the promotion of collaborative research among municipalities, academia, civil society and business enterprises to advance urban environmental development.

TEMAS PARA EL ANÁLISIS

· Cómo generar mecanismos para adaptar la agenda ambiental global a escala local, en su interacción con el nivel nacional.

· Qué instancias regionales se deberían poner en acción para instrumentar estrategias comunes entre agencias internacionales y gobiernos para coordinar acciones para responder a las demandas locales.

· Cómo ayudar a visualizar e instrumentar las responsabilidades compartidas entre los distintos niveles administrativos, para encarar la agenda ambiental local.

· Cuál es el papel de los distintos actores sociales en la implementación de la agenda local.

· Qué mecanismos institucionales permiten incorporar la investigación en los planes para desarrollar políticas ambientales locales sustentables, y cómo la investigación puede responder a las demandas locales y globales de las problemáticas ambientales.

· Qué importancia se le otorga a la promoción de investigación colaborativa entre municipios, academia, sociedad civil y empresas, para la promoción del desarrollo ambiental urbano.
