2.   Merco Cities Solidarity Award “Knowledge on Urban Environmental Management”:  as a result of this award, the Municipal Prefecture of Porto Alegre, with the support of the EMS, has launched the second edition of its Environmental Atlas of Porto Alegre.

3.     The EMS, with the support of the Urban Management Programme-Habitat for Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Public-Private Partnership Programme for the Urban Environment-UNDP, is preparing a Directory of Researchers and Experts in Public-Private Partnership Mechanisms in Urban Environmental Management.

News

-        EMS-IDRC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the PPPUE/UNDP and UMP-Habitat programmes for the joint promotion of research and training activities in urban environmental management, in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.

-       The Instituto de Promoción de la Economía Social-IPES (Institute for the Promotion of Social Economy) and the Urban Management Programme-Habitat for Latin America and the Caribbean, are organising the creation of a Work Group of Latin American and Caribbean Cities on the subject of Integrated and Sustainable Management of Solid Waste.
