OCTOBER 4 - WORLD HABITAT DAY

Every year, since 1985 World Habitat Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in October. This day has been set aside by the United Nations for the world to reflect on the state of human settlements and the basic right to adequate shelter and to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.
The theme of this year's World Habitat Day will be Cities - engines of rural development. It underlines the importance of mutually beneficial linkages that are essential for the development of both cities and rural areas.

OCTOBER 2nd - INTERAMERICAN WATER DAY


Since 1993 every year the first Saturday of October is commemorated the Inter-American Water Day. It was promoted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Inter-American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (AIDIS) and the Caribbean Water And Wastewater Association (CWWA). Its objective is to pay tribute to water as the basis of our existence. The commemoration of this special day highlights the importance of water for the well-being, health and sustainable development of all humankind.

Within this framework, the EMS, through its Small Grants Research Program, announces the results of the call entitled: "Multi-stakeholder Partnerships for the Sustainable use of water in urban areas"

SIGA: A TOOL FOR PREVENTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTERS 

The EMS has elaborated a Manual for Environmental Planning of Vulnerable Areas, based on the application of an Integrated System for Environmental Management. This tool aims to support the work of municipalities providing a methodology for the environmental planning of vulnerable and risk areas, as a key element to prevent environmental disasters.  More information
