SUMMARY

A research was conducted on industrial solid waste management by SMEs in the city of Montevideo.

The following activities were implemented: characterisation, systematisation of information, bibliographic search for technical material and standards on industrial solid waste management.

Local actors were interviewed, for example: specialised technical experts, authorities involved at different stages of the waste management process in Montevideo, companies that have successfully implemented waste management schemes and a research on the current situation of the industrial solid waste recycling market was also conducted. The scope of work was extended by means of a questionnaire to be filled out on the subject of waste generation by SMEs; this was organised by one of the associations involved in the issue: ANMYPE.

A Guidebook was published for Waste Generators; it includes technical and operational information on waste management. In addition, it includes information on current international legislation signed by our country.

Finally, suggestions to improve management were also presented.
